We recommend that it is normally
a good idea if you are going to cycle to work that you try out several
routes first, maybe at the week-end before taking the plunge on
a Monday morning.
Your speed in town will be between 5-10mph so please
give yourself a generous amount of time for your first few journeys.
DO...
Build up your confidence - if you are not used to cycling, practise
in a safe place first. There may be a cycling course you can join
through your local council or local cycling campaign group.
Be wary of parked cars - give yourself plenty of time and space
to pull out from parked cars, keeping your eyes open for people
stepping out, or for people opening car doors.Don't get stuck against
the kerb.
Use cycle lanes - if they are helpful to you.
Indicate your intentions - use clear hand signals.
